description
The School of Early Childhood Education (SECE) is an 18-month course. SECE aims to train teachers in a biblical understanding of education and the appropriate handling of different age groups. The goal of SECE is to prepare and equip teachers to look at education as a great tool for discipling nations.  We strive to make it known that education began with God and we must keep Him and His word in the center of education.  Upon successful graduation, students will receive an Associate of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education with the University of Nations.
Psalms 11:3 When the foundations are destroyed, what shall the righteous do?
John 15:16... and appointed you to go forth and bear fruit, fruit that will remain.

course content
Topics covered in School of Early Childhood Education are:
  - Biblical worldview and philosophy of education
  - How to create a learning environment
  - Teaching methods and material preparation
  - Child growth and development
  - Classroom management and discipline
  - The teacher as a role model
  - Education psychology
  - Parent/child relationships
  - Counseling and discipline
  - Management and administration
  - History of education, learning styles, etc.

In SECE, these four pillars of Christian education are emphasized:
I) Restoration of a harmonious relationship with God.
II) Restoration of a harmonious relationship with self.  A sense of self worth is built as children shown that they have value and unique gifts.  They are encouraged to explore these through creative subjects like art, music, and drama.
III) Restoration of a harmonious relationship with others – the importance of which history and social studies bear testimony.
IV) Restoration of a harmonious and responsible relationship with creation.  This involves learning about how our world works (the sciences and geography), how to look after it (environmental studies and nutrition), and how to be good stewards of it (mathematics).

lecture phase
The lecture phase of SECE is divided in to two parts, one being the educational theories and second is the useful skills of learning how to make materials.  The educational resources that students will learn to make are based on the Montessori approach to learning.  In addition to daily lectures during this time, students will also be involved in practical work in the community schools.

outreach phase
Outreach for SECE consists of a nine-month internship and a three-month field assignment.  During the internship, students will work within a YWAM school or local community school.  YWAM Hopeland has an on-site Preschool that also serves as internship opportunity.  Other recent intern locations have been at the YWAM Arua base in Uganda as well in neighboring Rwanda.  After the nine months of internship have been completed, SECE students will move into the final phase of the school in their field assignment.  Students will have a cross-cultural opportunity to set up a school where either a SECE graduate or interning student will stay on.  They will also spend these twelve weeks conducting seminars and giving lectures for teachers, parents and child workers in that community.
