description The goal of a Discipleship Training School (DTS) is to encourage committed Christians into a deeper personal relationship with the Lord, thus equipping them to serve Him in whatever capacity he calls them to. It is also an introduction to the values of YWAM and a chance to explore the opportunities we can offer to develop a calling in to missions.
The training students receive and the relationships that are built here promote inner healing and challenges them to model Christ-like lifestyle and attitude. The DTS here at Hopeland has been blessed with seeing hope restored to the hopeless and personal encounters with God. After completing DTS here, many students either stay on staff or continue on to apply what they have learned in other ministries outside of YWAM.
course content Topics covered in the Discipleship Training School are: - The character, ways, and word of God - Relationships with one another - Missions - Hearing the voice of God - The father heart of God - Gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit - Prayer and Intercession - Praise and Worship - Spiritual warfare and dealing with occult - Rejection, deliverance, healing, and forgiveness
DTS is not just about accumulating knowledge but about leading the students to develop their own individual daily walk with God and discovering their unique gifts and ministry.
lecture phase For the first 12 weeks of DTS, the lecture phase of the school concentrates on enabling the student to know God better. It consists of teachings from a wide variety of international and local speakers, followed by small groups where issues raised can be discussed and questions can be answered.
Daily work duties develop a servant heart, a team spirit, and teach the student to be “faithful in the small things.” Students in the DTS come from Africa and many other parts of the world so students learn to live communally with others and build relationships with those from different backgrounds and cultures. You can expect a unique Ugandan flavor in teaching and in the live/learn environment.
outreach phase This is a challenging and exciting time when the students get a chance to put their faith into action and get experience in strategic evangelism and missions. Unity grows as the team supports one another and lives closely together, often with local families. Flexibility and adaptability are necessary as are patience and a good sense of humor! Students learn to rely on God as they see him at work in their own lives and in the people around them.
requirements To participate in the DTS you must be at least 17 years old and have a desire to learn more about God.
