The Start
In 1986, Nick and Cheryl Dekoning and Alphonse Rwiririza came from Kenya to start Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Uganda. The first base they started was YWAM Hopeland, which is one of the largest bases in East Africa and hosts a number of training schools and ministries. Following is the condensed version of how YWAM Hopeland has developed since 1986.
In 1990 staff from Kings Lodge, UK came and started the School of Biblical Studies (SBS).
In 1991 we purchased the first 10-acres of our 75-acre property. A few weeks later 93 people moved on to the base
In 1992 the Vocational Training school was started
In 1996 the pre-school was started on base
In 1998 in-service ran it’s first training course
